A Leader in Education

I am in the Education field, more specifically, higher education administration. I work as the Executive Director in Academic Affairs with the Senior Vice President and Provost as an Academic administrator. Before joining the Office of Academic Affairs, I worked as a Counselor/Professor for two years; Director of the Associate of Arts in Teacher Education Program for three years; and Executive Director of Student Development and Student Services for two years.

I have been in this field for over 14 years, and I love my job and profession. It affords me the opportunity to impact college students’ lives. We have a small office staff, but we manage to get a lot of work done. I am responsible for facilitating development of proposed degree programs and working with faculty to ensure the growth of new degree programs; and serve as the liaison with Student Affairs and Student Services. These are the items written on paper; of course my activities range from answering the phones, typing memos, ordering materials from the stockroom, and of course, attending meetings on top of meetings on top of meetings. At times, I attend three or four meetings daily. When I do eat breakfast or lunch? At my desk, where else!!!

My academic background is in Pre-Law, Counseling and Adult Women’s Development. While working full time, I went back to school for my graduate degrees (M.A and Ph.D.) and got married to a wonderful and supporting man. I graduated in January and got pregnant the same month and delivered my beautiful baby girl 41 weeks later!!! She wanted to make sure she spent as much time with her mommy as possible. She is now two years old and is the joy of our lives.
I am published; I make several presentations a year; attend my sorority meetings and activities; and an active member in this investment club!!! God gives me the strength to do as much and I am I am grateful.

As a hobby on my spare time, my family loves to travel. So, we have traveled to Hawaii, California, Texas, New Jersey, New Mexico, Florida, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Illinois, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bahamas, China, to name only a few. We are looking forward to planning trips to Australia, South Africa and Italy in the near future. This recession has helped many people to go to school or return to complete their college degrees, so we are definitely seeing a growth, unlike other fields!!!
